History
The idea for the directory first came about a few years ago. It was initially developed between the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), Cymru Ar-lein, Welsh Assembly Government (WAG), and the early Sustainable Development Forum for Wales (now known as Cynnal Cymru - Sustain Wales). Its aim is to bring together in one place all of the individuals, organisations and businesses that are helping to make sustainable development a reality in Wales.
What’s it for?
To provide a one-stop-shop for people in Wales to go to whenever they’d like information on products or services to help them live, work, shop or enjoy themselves ethically, sustainably and reassuringly ‘green’. With so many brilliant things going on in Wales it can be difficult to know where to look first.
What’s so good about it?
A unique aspect of the directory is that it’s designed not only with consumers in mind but is also for practitioners, professionals or people with great ideas for projects that just don’t know how to get started.
The site is a great way of getting in contact with like minded people, or finding out who else is out there that might be able to help.
It also covers the breadth of sustainable development, the best that it can, and does so across the whole of Wales.

How does it work?
The site uses Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to plot sustainable development action across a map of Wales and this map can be searched by postcode or activity type. Each type of activity is highlighted with its own icon.
The site also has a section called ‘Case Studies’, these are simply good examples of projects that we highlight on a constantly changing basis. Anyone can apply to feature as a case study.
Our supporters
The directory has been developed by a Project Board comprising representatives from Cynnal Cymru-Sustain Wales, the Countryside Council for Wales, Welsh Assembly Government among others. Cynnal Cymru-SustainWales also manages the site on behalf of this group.
