Wellbeing is put on the map in Wales

Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales, a brand new charity, has been launched in the Wales Millennium Centre. The aim of the new organisation is to challenge inequality in Wales by using wellbeing as a means to focus action and measure progress.

The charity’s Patron, Professor Sir Mansel Aylward CB, said: "The evidence is there that in the broadest sense, increasing wellbeing makes good business sense for Wales." Professor Aylward is the first-ever Chair of Public Health Wales and Director of the Centre for Psychosocial and Disability Research at Cardiff University.

Professor Aylward added: "Current figures suggest that poor mental health costs the Welsh economy £7.2bn a year but what's needed is greater investment in wellbeing promoting activities. That's where Wellbeing Wales comes in. Its role is to help decision makers design services that increase wellbeing from the start."

Wellbeing Wales will support current Wellbeing Wales Network stakeholders by continuing to provide them with advice and evidence of best practice. Through establishing a charity, interested parties can now join the organisation as members to directly shape the agenda in Wales.

Wellbeing Wales has developed tools to promote wellbeing, including:

•    A new publication, the First Incomplete Field Guide to Wellbeing in Wales, with almost 50 examples of what wellbeing currently looks like across Wales.
•    A new informative and dynamic website.
•    The Exploring Sustainable Wellbeing Toolkit helps users incorporate wellbeing into projects and interventions.
